Note that SYSDATE returns a complete Oracle date and Time stamp in the format specified in your registry setting for NLS_DATE_FORMAT (usually DD-Mon-YYYY). If you do not want to consider the time portion, you should use the TRUNC() function. You will likely want to use data conversion functions to get the masking that you are looking for – see below.
