A Core Competency is the measurement basis for an individual’s worth to an organization. They describe
personal qualities, professional abilities and skills in all areas of business.
A dictionary of core competencies is maintained in the system; this dictionary allows organizations to apply a systematic approach to the measurement of individual skills and abilities.
Core competencies are organized within high level competence groups and detailed competence categories. Each core competence has one or more levels of proficiency attached to it. Each usage of a core competence is a specific competence level of a core competence not the core competence itself.
The training and development application uses these competencies for many purposes:
- To measure an individual’s worth to the organization
- To facilitate talent searches
- To identify individual training needs (under-qualified person)
- To identify individual’s who are ready for promotion (over-qualified person)
- To identity job, position, posting requirements (through job profiles)
- To identify prerequisites for courses and development programs
- To recognize achievement for successful completion of assessments, courses, development programs, program steps, development activities
The Define Core Competencies (ICCC) form allows you establish and maintain core competencies within the system.
