Work Teams identify the crews that are needed to fill the posts in the workstation. They are used to create a link between a workstation and the shifts required to fill that station.
Teams are the set of employees that work together in a work station on the same shift rotation, often led by a team leader or lead hand, may be referred to as a crew, a squad, a work station complement. In a shift environment, each work station has its own work team for each shift.
Teams are defined with a general start and end date (to allow the shifts defined for a work team to change over time), a shift pattern (created on Maintain Shift Patterns (ITSP)), and a ‘relative start day’.
For example: The following 8 day shift pattern is defined on ITSP.
RELATIVE DAY | SHIFT |
---|---|
1 | Days 7:00 am – 7:00 pm |
2 | Days 7:00 am – 7:00 pm |
3 | OFF |
4 | OFF |
5 | Nights 7:00 pm – 7:00 am |
6 | Nights 7:00 pm – 7:00 am |
7 | OFF |
8 | OFF |
The station, ‘Fire Engine 1’ must be manned around the clock. In order to meet this requirement, 4 work teams are established.
If each team starts with a different ‘relative day’ the entire 24 hours will be covered and each team will have days off between their shift changes. This 8 day pattern can be continuously repeated to provided full coverage over a month, year or longer.
