This is a derived field based on hierarchical information in the system to show the user what the system will use when the "First Manager" option is chosen in approvals. The order of determination starts with what is entered as the ‘Reports To’ person on the assignment itself.

Sequence of processing to derive the employee's first manager:

1. IEAS Supervised by filled in
2. IDPS manager filled in
3. IDPS manager's position has an incumbent
   • Note that if multiple people are incumbent, the most senior manager in that position is selected.
4. Repeat #2 and #3 up to five times
5. Employee's department has a manager filled in
6. Employee's department's manager position has an incumbent
7. Repeat #5 and #6 up to five times

Note that the Derived First Manager Field on IEAS does not retrieve data when the employee is terminated.

A foreign key link from the originating table back to the ID found on the P2K_HR_IDENTITIES table.

A new column DRV_HIERARCHY_MESSAGE has been added to IEAS right below the First Manager column to display a hierarchy definition problem if a person reports to themselves in error during set up. This allows the form to query data to the screen and provide information on the bad reporting structure.
