Conversion into the DEMO System#
During the initial installation of the software application, two databases were created. These two databases are called PILOT and DEMO. The DEMO database is used during the first training session with the consultants to illustrate how to log onto the application and to navigate the various screens. After this initial training session, the database can be taken offline to free up some system resources of the Oracle Server. If this database is still available, it can be used the run some preliminary tests of the Conversion Application. This will allow us to test the SQL Loader and the screens and reports of the Conversion Application without having to worry about affecting any of the software tables. Since the implementation team is continually altering the software PILOT database, it is best to perform these initial tests on another database.
There are several .DAT files within the Conversion\HRIS directory that can be used to test the installation and setup of the Conversion Application. These files contain test records for the PERSONALS, EMPLOYMENTS and ASSIGNMENTS, as well as several other tables.
Since all the SQL Loader control files DO NOT specify the location of the .DAT files, the files with the test records must be moved into the CONVERSION directory. The Conversion Applications start in this location due to the settings of the shortcut that was created earlier. Alternately, the control files can be altered to fully qualify the location of the data files while using performing these tests.
