* Write in a way that is easy to understand and avoid local slang or phrases. Many of those who will read your text may not have English as their first language.
** __Avoid the ''"click here"'' phrase!!__ Don't say: "More info about etiquette can be found [here|WIKI.ETIQUETTE]" but use "More info about etiquette can be found at [WIKI.ETIQUETTE]". I'd suggest avoiding it for external links as well.
** Write in a way that is easy to understand and avoid local slang or phrases. Many of those who will read your text may not have English as their first language.
* Don't use too many acronyms (or at least, have a page explaining them)
* __Avoid the ''"click here"'' phrase!!__ Don't say: "More info about etiquette can be found [here|WikiEtiquette]" but use "More info about etiquette can be found at [WikiEtiquette]". I'd suggest avoiding it for external links as well.
* Contribute only original stuff. Links are fine, but don't cut-and-paste from copyrighted things.
* Correcting typos is quite okay - in fact, it's a very good habit, since it makes the web page more readable.

* In this Wiki the links are written using the [[link] notation. That is a page is referenced within ~[ and ~] brackets. The page name is case sensitive, as far as its indexing goes, and if you are on a case-sensitive operating system, there will be different pages for WikiEtiquette and WIKIEtiquette.
Wiki Names are traditionally written using ~InterCapping, also known as ~CamelCase (starting with uppercase letter, and at least another uppercase letter in the wiki link word). This makes the creation of internal hyperlinks really easy.

* A Wiki Page Name can not be a number. Numeric names are used for [footnotes|WIKI.MARKUP BASICS#Footnotes].
However, in this [WikiWiki] the links are written using the [[link] notation, as the original ~InterCapping style of linking is occasionally confusing. The names still conform to the [WikiWiki] standard, if you look at the URL at the top.

!Writing text
* You don't need to know anything about the Wiki text [formatting rules|WIKI.MARKUP BASICS] to use Wiki (called a markup language). Just write normal text, and then use an empty line to mark a paragraph.
* It's just like writing an email. there is a powerful formatting capability, and a WYSIWYG toolbar to help you with the common ones (if you wish to use it). You don't have to know HTML or anything fancy like that to make things useful.
Names are ''crushed'', i.e. [[This is a link] becomes [[ThisIsALink]. However, underscores and dots are retained, so you can have a link like this: [[This_is_a_link], or [[This.Is.A.Link]. All non-alphanumeric characters except for '_' and '.' are removed (that is, all characters that are not letters or numbers), so that [[John's page] becomes [[JohnsPage]. This allows you to type normal sentences which are then turned into links, like when talking about [Wiki etiquette].

!Conflicts
* If someone happens to edit the same page as you at the same time, The Wiki will prevent you from doing changes and show a conflict page instead. Sorry to say, but the first one to make changes wins...
* __A word of warning:__ If you use the Back button of your browser to go into the Edit page, you will almost certainly get a conflict. This is because the browser thinks it's still editing an earlier copy of the page.
!Discussion Page etiquette
* It is preferred if you sign your comments with your name, so that if clarification is sought, it is known who should be asked.
* Please don't correct or remove someone else's comments - this would be the domain of the editors, once the discussion has been incorporated into the main page body.
A WikiName can not be a number. Numeric names are used for [footnotes|TextFormattingRules].
